UK weather maps show huge 874-mile wall of snow from Scotland to Wales | Weather | News
Parts of the UK have already experienced snowfall this winter, with temperatures dropping below minus in mid-November and areas from Scotland to London hit by white flurries.
After a similarly disruptive spell of weather brought on by back-to-back storms Bert and Conall, Brits could enjoy a brief milder and calmer period before a colossal 874-mile wall of snowfall descends across the country in beginning of next month.
By Tuesday, December 10, almost all of Scotland is expected to be overcast, with the winter blitz extending into deep Wales, according to new weather maps from WXCharts.
While most of Northern Ireland will experience heavy showers during the second week of December, snow is also expected to hit the northwest of England, with Greater Manchester and Cumbria among the counties in line of icy sight.
Snowfall, expected to fall at midnight on Tuesday, will then turn to rain across most of the UK, with parts of Scotland around Edinburgh and Northumberland receiving up to 4mm of rain.
Showers are also forecast in Wales and northern England, including Manchester and Birmingham, with between 1.5 and 2mm expected to fall in all areas.
Weather maps then show snow moving into Yorkshire and the Humber and potentially the East Midlands, with up to 1.5cm falling by 6am.
Unsurprisingly, the decisive return of winter will be accompanied by a drop in the mercury, according to WXCharts forecasts, with parts of Scotland falling below -10C and areas around London in the south -is enjoying their fair share of the cold with subzero temperatures.
