Dozens of firefighters are battling a huge blaze that broke out in east London.

Eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters are battling a blaze at a terraced house in Ley Street, Ilford.

Reports of an explosion were shared on social media. The roof and first floor of the two-story property are on fire.

London Fire Station Commander Darren McTernan was at the scene. He said: “Firefighters are working hard to bring this fire under control.

“Ley Street is closed between Eastern Avenue and Vicarage Road, impacting traffic in the surrounding area, so please avoid this area if you can.

“One of the brigade’s 32 meter revolving ladders is being used at the scene to help fight the fire from above. The brigade’s drone team was also deployed to the incident scene, providing the incident commander with an aerial view of the scene.”
