Duolingo down as angry users fear losing footage | United Kingdom | News
Duolingo appears to be down for many people, as angry users report receiving a “lesson is currently unavailable” message because they fear losing footage.
One user wrote: “Having service issues tonight? I get the message “Course is currently unavailable” every time I try. Another wrote on Twitter: “@duolingo hey guys, what happens if I can’t train today because of your outage and I lose my streak? Please , don’t say it’s over for good?”
Duolingo is a massive language learning app used by over 100 million people worldwide to quickly learn a foreign language.
DownDetector, which monitors outage reports from online service providers, reported a spike of 419 reports as of 9:23 p.m. today.
Reports appear to have started to increase around 9:08 p.m.
Duolingo uses “gamification” to encourage learning, and as part of this, users can complete learning “streaks” often using it with friends, much like on the social media app Snapchat. Users fear losing their series this evening, now that the application seems to have crashed.
Another Twitter user wrote “I restarted my phone and it still doesn’t work. Duolingo keeps saying I’m offline but clearly I have both wifi and data?” [sic]
73% of reports on DownDetector concern the application; with only 22% referring to online courses and 6% to the website.
But by 10:10 p.m., only five new reports had come in, suggesting the problems people were experiencing may be starting to be resolved.
Joking on Twitter, one user wrote: “Duolingo is down and if I lose my streak before it reappears I’ll be mad,” while another said: “I can delete Facebook being down .I can delete Instagram being down I can take WhatsApp is down I can’t take it. @duolingo be on the ground. »
