Brazil extends Nike kit deal until 2038 and it’s worth $100 million a year, AP source says
SAO-PAULO — Brazilian football on Friday extended its kit contract with Nike by 12 years until 2038.
A person familiar with the matter told The Associated Press it was worth $100 million a year, plus royalties on the sale of national team jerseys that were not included in previous contracts.
The person spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to disclose terms of the deal.
For the first time, the Brazilian Football Confederation will also be allowed to license products and open stores around the world.
“This contract demonstrates the strength of Brazilian football,” said CBF president Ednaldo Rodrigues. “This is one of the longest and most successful partnerships in football and together we will continue to celebrate the brilliance of Brazilian football and honor the legacy of Jogo Bonito.”
Brazil and Nike first partnered in 1996 and their latest contract would not expire until 2026.
Nike vice president of Latin America Doug Bowles said the deal “reinforces our long-standing commitment to Brazilian football.”
Nike kits are worn by Brazil’s men’s and women’s teams of all ages, as well as beach soccer and futsal teams.
In March, Nike signed an agreement with the German Football Association to replace Adidas as the clothing and equipment supplier for its national teams from 2027 to 2034. The deal was reportedly worth around 100 million euros ($108 million). Relations between Germany and Adidas date back around 70 years and appear unshakable.
Other national teams sponsored by Nike include Australia, Croatia, England, France, Nigeria, Poland, Portugal, Saudi Arabia and South Korea.
