Police investigating ‘dozens of people’ at Post and Fujitsu in new update | United Kingdom | News

“Dozens of people” at the Post Office and Fujitsu are the subject of a police investigation, announced the head of a national operation.

Around a hundred agents are investigating possible suspects and their involvement in the Post Office scandal.

The scandal saw hundreds of subpostmasters wrongly prosecuted for stealing from their branches between 1999 and 2015 after faulty Horizon software triggered a series of accounting errors.

In a new update, senior Metropolitan Police officers and victims, including Sir Alan Bates, met. They were told agents were reviewing 1.5 million documents and thousands of victims.

Commander Stephen Clayman, who headed Operation Olympos, said “dozens” of people from the Post Office and Fujitsu were under investigation.

He added: “We will go where the evidence leads us…our abiding goal is the pursuit of justice.”

Three people have been questioned under caution, with more suspects expected to be questioned in 2025. Last month, Sky News revealed that four suspects were being investigated for perverting the course of justice and perjury.

If the Public Prosecution Service decides the standards of proof are met, any potential trial would not take place until at least 2027.

Former deputy postmaster Jess Kaur has been wrongly accused of 36 counts of theft from her post office in Aldridge, West Midlands. She suffered a nervous breakdown and attempted suicide.

Ms Kaur said it was “disgusting” that a trial was years away, but she understood police needed time to investigate. “There’s not just one or two [to investigate] so it will take time,” she said. “I hope they do a good job, we don’t want to rush them.”

However, she added that “hundreds of people were immediately put behind bars” when they were falsely accused of theft from the Post Office.
