Brazilian Lula recovering from surgery to drain head hemorrhage, hospital says

SAO-PAULO — Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva is recovering in an intensive care unit after undergoing surgery for an intracranial hemorrhage, Sirio-Libanes Hospital said in a statement Tuesday morning.

The procedure was carried out after the 79-year-old left-wing leader experienced headaches, according to doctors. a fall at home in October.

The hospital said Lula, who traveled from the capital Brasilia for treatment 1,000 kilometers south (620 miles) in Sao Paulo, is “in good health, under monitoring in an intensive care bed” after l hemorrhage has been drained.
