A man has died after a tree fell on his car, as Storm Darragh wreaks havoc across the UK.

The man was traveling in Erdington, Birmingham, when strong winds uprooted the tree.

The motorist was driving on Silver Birch Road, near Sutton New Road, when the incident occurred.

Firefighters and police cordoned off the area. The man, who has not been named, is the second person to die from Storm Darragh.

Sergeant Benjamin Parsons, of the force’s road policing unit, said: “Our thoughts are with the man’s family at this time, and his next of kin have been informed.

“A report will be sent to the coroner. Anyone who saw what happened or may have dashcam or mobile phone footage is asked to contact us.”

Earlier, a man died in Lancashire after a tree fell on his van.

The man, aged in his 40s, was driving a Citroën vehicle on the A59 at Longton, near Preston.

The incident happened around 9am on Saturday and the man was pronounced dead at the scene, Lancashire Police said.

Detective Sergeant Matt Davidson, of Lancashire Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “Very sadly this incident has resulted in the death of a man and our thoughts are with his loved ones at this time. moment.

“An investigation is underway and I would appeal to anyone who saw what happened or has dashcam or mobile phone footage to contact us.”
