2 students shot, gunman presumed dead after shooting at Christian school in California

Two students were injured and the suspected shooter died after opening fire Wednesday at a Christian high school in Northern California, according to investigators.

Butte County, Calif., Sheriff Kory Honea said his office responded to a 911 call about a shooting at the Feather River Seventh-day Adventist School in Palermo around 1 p.m. local time and responded. engaged with the unidentified man who opened fire.

The suspect was quickly found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to investigators.

Two unidentified students were injured in the incident and taken to hospitals, one of whom was airlifted, the sheriff’s office said. Their conditions were not immediately known.

The investigation is ongoing but it was not immediately apparent that the suspect had any connection to the school, which teaches grades K-8 and has a total of 35 students, according to Honea. Palermo is located approximately 65 miles north of Sacramento.

The students were transported to a local church where they would reunite with their parents, the sheriff’s office said.
