Woman nearly ignores airline spam, averts disaster | UK | News
A woman about to reject an apparently “spam” email from an airline narrowly avoided travel chaos.
The Reddit user shared her experience on r/CasualUK, explaining how she nearly had a disaster after nearly deleting an airline’s late-night post.
It read: “Late night email from an airline, I almost deleted it as spam and they tell me my flights on Tuesday are to a completely different airport and city.”
The Reddit user elaborated on the calamity, mentioning that this wasn’t the first time something like this had happened, while also wondering why there was “nothing to indicate” the essential nature of the email.
She continued in her message: “I almost ignored it because everyone sends so many spam emails, I almost missed that they moved my flight to another airport! I would have waited ages to be picked up at the wrong location. Why do they do that?”
She continued: “Nothing to indicate that this is any different from the other 10 emails I’ve received trying to sell me further, but a pretty big change without even saying ‘important information’ in the subject line!
“I’ve had similar cases from people like Amazon where the order was cancelled and I just thought it was fake confirmations, but being stuck in an unknown airport in a foreign country is pretty significant!”
The public reacted to her story, suggesting that she could potentially seek compensation for the inconvenience.
One disgruntled traveller took to social media to say: “As it’s within 14 days of departure you may be able to get compensation. EasyJet have delayed our return from Manchester at 7pm to Liverpool at 1.30am but that’s 30 days before the flight so we’re screwed.”
Meanwhile, other passengers added their own air travel nightmares about sudden changes from one airport to another.
Frustrations were at their peak when one user expressed their ordeal by writing: “They eventually refunded my expenses but refused to offer me any help getting to and from London at the time,” and added with obvious exasperation: “Luckily I had the money on hand, but it’s nice to know that if I didn’t have it, their plan was ‘bad luck, poor guy’.”
In another alarming account, one passenger shared: “This happened to me last year. I ended up at Heathrow instead of Gatwick on a much earlier flight with 4 days notice before departure. I had to take my work laptop in the car with me as I couldn’t take time off at such short notice. It was very stressful as I was going away for a month.”
