UK town horrified by strange changes to local river | United Kingdom | News

Residents of a Greater Manchester town were horrified today (September 23) when their river began to foam.

Roads and cars near the River Tame in Dukinfield were covered in white bubbles as the mysterious substance was carried away by the wind.

Local resident Sam Pedder filmed the scene. He said: “It’s unbelievable. In 34 years of living on the River Tame in Dukinfield I’ve never seen a situation this terrible.

“It is clear that something was dumped upstream and caused this absolute disgrace.”

An Environment Agency spokesperson said: “We would like to thank members of the public who reported moss in Dukinfield around the River Tame in Tameside.

“Environment Agency officers are currently on site investigating the source of the problem and determining whether there are any potential environmental impacts.”

People reacted to the photos online.

Vicky Haynes wrote: “What the hell is this? It looks like a foam party like you see abroad.”

Jenny Adams posted: “What a shame. Something needs to be done about this.”

Dawny Acton wrote: “A few weeks ago a heron was trying to fish in the lake. I just called the environmental agency to report it. Everyone needs to call the environmental agency.”
