Birmingham: Man attacked by masked thugs at Yardley pub

Groups of men waving Palestinian flags launched an attack in Birmingham yesterday, sparking further chaos on British streets.

In a shocking video shared on X, a lone man was beaten by a hooded mob outside a pub in the city.

He appears to be alone in a smoking area at the front of the pub when he appears to gesture towards the group and open his arms as they pass.

Some men then enter and he appears to fall into step with the one in front, wearing a balaclava, but he is quickly knocked to the ground and then kicked by two others.

Then the group grows to about ten men who surround him as he hides under the table.

The attack is filmed by people inside the pub, and a woman can be heard shouting: “They’re hitting him. Get him in, get him in.”

One of the group then kicks in the pub window as people hide inside.

Another video of the attack filmed from the street outside the Clumsy Swan pub in Yardley was also shared online, showing dozens of thugs approaching the pub.

The man who recorded it commented: “They’re destroying the pub, they shouldn’t be doing that, mate. It’s wrong, I don’t agree with it.

“There are probably families in there, it’s stupid of them to do that. These people are inside and not out in the street protesting.”

The incident occurred near a location where a live Sky News broadcast was interrupted earlier the same day by a protester shouting “Free Palestine”.

Presenter Becky Johnson saw a masked protester coming up behind her on a motorbike.

He shouted “Yo, free Palestine, f*** the EDL”, before other men approached and the broadcast was cut off.

Another video filmed near the pub, and also shared on X, showed a group of masked men with several Palestinian flags surrounding cars in the area.

A crowd surrounds a blue car with men kicking it and trying to open a door, before a rear window is smashed and the driver attempts to escape by driving off the road into a grassy area, as men chase him.

The attacks by Palestine supporters appear to be a response to previous attacks on mosques and asylum seeker housing by far-right thug groups in cities across the country.

The events follow a week of violence across the country following protests by far-right and anti-immigration groups.

Riots intensified in Hartlepool on Wednesday night, as well as in London and Manchester, while another took place in Sunderland on Friday night.

Rioting broke out in Southport on Tuesday following the shocking stabbing deaths the previous day of three girls, Alice Dasilva Aguiar, nine, Elsie Dot Stancombe, seven, and Bebe King, six.

Eight other children and two adults were seriously injured in the attack at a Taylor Swift-themed dance class in the city.

Axel Rudakubana, 17, born in Cardiff, Wales, to Rwandan parents, has been charged with three counts of murder and ten counts of attempted murder.

The riots were sparked by rumours spread online that the suspect was a radical Muslim immigrant.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, speaking after an emergency Cobra meeting, warned that continued violence would not be “tolerated” and that the full force of the law would be brought down on the perpetrators.

He said: “A number of actions were taken following the meeting.

“The first thing is that we will have a standing army of officers specialised in public service so that we have enough officers to deal with the situation where we need them.

“The second thing is that we are going to strengthen criminal justice. Hundreds of arrests have already been made, some appeared in court this morning.

“I have asked that consideration be given as soon as possible to naming and identifying those involved in the process who will face the full force of the law.”

But, Express.co.uk reported yesterday that far-right groups were planning further “protests” in 39 towns and cities across the country tomorrow.

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: “A large number of people gathered in Bordesley this evening (Monday) but there were no clashes with members of opposing groups. We were aware of rumours circulating on social media about a possible far-right demonstration taking place in Birmingham today (Monday).

“We can confirm that this did not happen. A large number of people gathered in Bordesley this evening (Monday) but there were no clashes with members of opposing groups.

“No arrests have been made at this stage but there have been sporadic incidents and we are investigating reports of assault, incidents of criminal damage to a pub on Stoney Lane, a car with windows smashed on Alcombe Grove, Stechford and further criminal damage to a vehicle with tyres damaged on Belchers Lane, Bordesley Green.

“We are also investigating reports of a man who was in possession of an offensive weapon. We investigate all reported incidents and will work hard to identify and arrest those responsible.”
