The 10 best places to live in England are ranked – and London isn’t No.1 | United Kingdom | News
Bedfordshire has taken a hit, being branded the worst county in England following a new ranking of all the country’s counties.
The telegraph released a list ranking the nation’s 48 counties, judging them in 41 areas, including the number of Michelin-starred restaurants. Bedfordshire was at the bottom of the list.
Although some may question whether categories such as the number of golf courses should actually determine the quality of a county, there are criteria that touch most interests.
The ranking also measures a county by its number of top national parks and villages, as well as its crime rate and, of course, the number of Great British Pub Awards winners.
In response to Bedfordshire’s poor ranking, the media outlet reported: “There are no world heritage sites, national parks, coastline, Michelin-starred restaurants, top-notch hotels, world-class sports , RHS gardens, dark sky reserves, national or cathedral trails. »
Bedfordshire gained 247 points thanks to an RSPB (Royal Society for the Protection of Birds) reserve, The Chiltern Hills, 24 museums and galleries and several National Trust and English Heritage properties.
Devon, which is also the best place to live in England, scored 981 points, almost four times more than Bedfordshire.
This is not the first time that Bedfordshire’s reputation has suffered. In 2023, the county’s suburban town of Luton was also named “the worst place to live” in the UK by satirical website iLiveHere. The website claimed that “everyone is unhappy about something” in the “dangerous city.”
However, this year it managed to avoid the list of worst places to live and found itself among the top five most zen places in the UK. According to a study by Supplement Place, the city has a Zen rating of 6.9 out of 10.
The Telegraph’s list was a revision of the original analysis carried out in 2022. Its ranking criteria were divided into four subcategories: peace and tranquility, natural wonders, history and culture, and luxury.
Greater London managed to top the list for history, culture and luxury, while Devon came top for natural wonders and Cornwall for peace and quiet.
