Tesco, Asda, Morrisons and Sainsbury’s customers warned of major milk error | UK | News
Customers at Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Asda and Morrisons have been given new advice on storing milk in their fridge, leaving many unhappy. An expert has issued an urgent warning to those storing milk in their fridge door, including customers at the big four supermarkets.
A Plumbworld expert warned: “This area is warmer than the rest of the fridge, which could be why your milk isn’t keeping for very long.”
“Try storing it in the main part of the fridge instead. You should be able to move the shelves to accommodate it.”
Echoing this sentiment, Tessa Clarke of food sharing app OLIO, advised against storing dairy products in the fridge door, as this can cause the milk to spoil more quickly, wasting both product and money.
Consumers are now being encouraged to store dairy products at the back of the refrigerator, where it is coldest, to extend the shelf life of their milk.
One UK consumer responded to the recommendations by saying: “I once read that milk starts to go bad the moment it comes out of the fridge. I think part of the ‘problem’ is not where you store it, but not putting it back in quickly enough.
Don’t leave it on the table while you eat breakfast.
“Oooh, look, I’m stating the fucking obvious, I must be an expert, lol.”
Another replied: “We’ve always kept our milk bottle on the doorstep (over 20 years) and never had one go bad. Just don’t buy more than you need for the week, or stock up on the way home from work or when you’re out.”
“I tell the so called expert to go back to nursery and learn something,” added a third.
“The back of the fridge is the coldest but my milk freezes there, things in the door get hit by the warm air every time the door is opened, I live alone and buy 4 pints of milk once a week, I keep it in the fridge door and I’ve never had any go bad,” added another.
