Manchester Airport: New video shows what happened before police officer punched man in the head | UK | News

New video footage has shed light on what led to a shocking incident at Manchester Airport on Wednesday in which a police officer kicked and punched a suspect in the head.

The first video that went viral shows the officer kicking the man despite the fact that he had been electrocuted and was lying on the ground.

A lawyer representing the man who was beaten revealed that the man had a cyst on his brain following a CT scan.

Footage has now shown police using physical force on other men at the airport.

In a video, officers can be seen pointing a Taser at the three men while another officer holds pepper spray.

A man shouts: “We didn’t do anything, we’re just recording.”

Another clip shows police approaching the man before grabbing him.

A third video shows a police officer spraying one of the men with pepper spray. The man covers his face.

The officer then puts the man in a headlock and drags him to the ground.

In another video, one of the men is behind the barrier when a police officer grabs him and tries to pull him through a gap.

The man’s pockets are then searched. A police officer is seen holding a collection of mobile phones.

The footage also shows the kicked man lying on the ground as two officers knee him in the back while he is handcuffed.

Luggage was visible scattered on the ground, accompanied by what appeared to be drops of blood.

Another man, who was sitting on a bench, was laid on his back before an officer apparently grabbed him around the face or neck.

A police spokesman said last night: “Officers were called to reports of an altercation between members of the public in Terminal 2 at Manchester Airport. While attempting to arrest one of the suspects from the earlier altercation, three officers were violently assaulted, during which they were punched to the ground. One officer suffered a broken nose and all three were taken to hospital for treatment.

“Given that the police officers present were armed officers, there was a clear risk that their firearms would be confiscated during this assault. Four men were arrested at the scene for assault and battery on emergency workers. We acknowledge the concerns raised by the behaviour depicted in the video, and our Professional Standards Branch is assessing the situation.”

A new statement released by GMP this morning confirmed that an officer had been suspended following the incident.

The statement said: “Following a thorough review of further information that has become available in relation to an incident at Manchester Airport on Tuesday evening, Greater Manchester Police has suspended a police officer from all duties. A referral has now been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct for a full independent investigation to be carried out.”
