Littlehampton fire: Huge blaze at UK landfill as black smoke billows into sky | UK | News

A huge fire is raging in the popular seaside town of Littlehampton in West Sussex, with thick black smoke rising high into the sky.

Footage shared on social media shows black clouds of smoke apparently rising high into the sky from a fire at a landfill in Climyping.

Firefighters are battling the blaze at Bairds Business Park, near Grevatts Lane, according to reports.

The A259 has been closed by emergency services as extra fire engines arrive at the scene of the blaze. West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service has warned that residents will face huge delays in areas surrounding the industrial site.

Firefighters said several 999 calls reported the blaze at around 10.20am. A spokesman for the service said: “We currently have eight fire engines, two water carriers and a lifting platform responding to the incident.

“People living nearby are asked to keep their doors and windows closed due to the amount of smoke in the area.”
