Jealous thug kills rival with 12-inch zombie knife | UK | News
A jealous brutal man who brutally murdered his romantic rival with a 12-inch zombie knife in a horrific street attack has been sentenced to life in prison.
Haseeb Majid, 22, stabbed Mohammed Duraab Khan, 26, 16 times at a Texaco petrol station in Nottingham on January 31. Despite the rapid response of Meadow Lane emergency services, Mr Khan tragically died from his injuries shortly afterwards.
The attack was caught on CCTV, allowing police to track down Majid, who had been injured in the knee in the brutal attack. He tried to argue that he had acted in self-defence and had “lost control”, but a jury convicted him of murder earlier this month.
Today he was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 26 years in prison. During the three-week trial at Nottingham Crown Court it emerged there was bad blood between the two men after Majid’s former girlfriend reconnected with Mr Khan.
On the day of the attack, Mr Khan was returning from Gatwick Airport where he had dropped off relatives. He and a friend stopped at a petrol station to buy food. As his friend filled up with petrol, Majid, wearing a black coat and ski mask, burst onto the forecourt. He opened the driver’s door and began stabbing Mr Khan, who was sitting in the passenger seat.
In a horrific display of violence that shocked onlookers, Mr Khan was brutally murdered in front of a crowd when Majid got out of his vehicle and stabbed him 16 times, the most fatal wound penetrating Mr Khan’s body by 22cm. Despite the efforts of the public and emergency services, his life could not be saved and he died at the scene.
Majid’s capture came quickly after footage emerged of his Ford Focus turning around to follow Mr Khan’s car, leading to his arrest the following day. Mr Khan’s grief-stricken family paid tribute to the “remarkable young man”.
In a heartfelt statement, they said: “Duraab was a remarkable young man whose life, although tragically cut short, was filled with love, laughter and an unwavering devotion to his family and friends.
“Duraab was a man of honour, deeply rooted in the values of his religion and culture. He knew how to show respect to his elders, to women and to children. He lived by a code of honour that defined his every action and interaction. His brutal murder took a brother, a friend, a nephew and a son from those who loved him unconditionally.”
Detective Inspector Kaz Smithson of Nottinghamshire Police condemned the heinous act, saying: “Majid’s murder of Mr Khan was savage and completely senseless. Majid must also live with the consequences of what he did that day as he begins a life sentence.”
