Gabriel Moreno hits 5-run double in ninth inning, Diamondbacks beat Royals 8-6
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Gabriel Moreno gave Arizona a two-run double in the ninth inning, Ketel Marte added a three-run homer and the Diamondbacks beat the Kansas City Royals 8-6 on Wednesday night.
Eugenio Saurez hit a home run for Arizona in the second and Joc Pederson and Christian Walker hit back-to-back homers in the fourth to make it 3-1. Pederson has 200 career home runs.
With Arizona trailing 4-3 in the ninth inning against relief pitcher James McArthur (4-4), Lourdes Gurriel Jr. singled with one out, Geraldo Perdomo walked and Moreno hits double that rolled to the wall in right-center space. After Corbin Carroll’s single, Marte hits three-run home run in the center. The star player hit a home run in all three games of the series.
Joe Mantiply (4-2) pitched the eighth inning for the win and Paul Sewald closed out the inning after allowing a two-run single to Vinnie Pasquantino in the ninth.
The Royals took the lead with a three-run fourth. Michael Massey doubled and scored on a fielder’s choice by Maikel Garcia. Isbel followed with a triple to tie it and scored on a wild pitch by Ryne Nelson.
Bobby Witt Jr. had 3 hits in 4 at-bats for Kansas City, raising his average to .344.

Diamondbacks: Arizona returns home to face Pittsburgh on Friday night. The Diamondbacks have not yet announced a starter.
Royals: Right-handed pitcher Brady Singer (6-6, 3.00 ERA) was scheduled to start Friday night at home against the Chicago Cubs.
