Chaos at Paddington LIVE: London station closed due to intruders | UK | News
Services were cancelled from Paddington station in west London on Sunday after a “trespassing incident”.
It comes as Notting Hill Carnival, which attracts hundreds of thousands of revellers to west London, begins today.
Here’s what we know so far:
– A ‘trespassing incident’ has been reported by National Rail and Transport for London (TfL), but no further details have yet been released and it is not yet known what caused it.
– Services between London Paddington and Heathrow Airport may be delayed by up to 30 minutes or cancelled altogether.
– The disruption was initially expected to last until 7:30pm, but has since been extended until 8:45pm.
– Photos posted by angry passengers on social media showed huge crowds at Paddington and people stuck on delayed trains.
– Meanwhile, Great Western Railway said services were running at a “reduced speed” due to damage to overhead power lines between Reading and Paddington.
– Passengers have also reported severe delays on the Elizabeth line. There are reportedly no services between Bond Street and Reading or Heathrow Airport due to an obstruction in the overhead power lines.
– In a statement, National Rail later announced that the intrusion problem had been resolved, but that problems persisted: “Damage to overhead line equipment between London Paddington and Reading means that all lines are blocked,” the statement said.
“As a result, trains running between London Paddington and Heathrow/Reading Airport may be cancelled or seriously delayed by up to 60 minutes.
“Major disruption is expected until 8:45pm. London Paddington Station is currently served by exits only.
“A previous trespassing incident near London Paddington Station had further disrupted services, but the issue has now been resolved.”
