Celine Dion Congratulates Billy Joel on His Final MSG Residency Show: “In a New York State of Mind”
Music legend Celine Dion congratulates his fellow icon Billy Joel following his decade-long residency at one of New York’s most iconic venues.
“Congratulations to my longtime friend Billy Joel for wrapping up his historic 10-year residency today at Madison Square Garden in New York City (a venue that is also near and dear to my heart),” Dion wrote in an Instagram post on Thursday.
“You put us in a ‘New York state of mind,’” she concluded, referencing Joel’s hit song from his 1976 album “Turnstiles.”

Joel’s final show, which will take place Thursday night, July 25, will also mark the 150th time Joel has played the venue, according to a release. Joel, who has been dubbed the venue’s first musical franchise, currently holds the all-time Madison Square Garden record for the most performances at the venue.
“Joel’s MSG shows redefined the concept of a residency; the scope and ambition of Joel’s residency, where he performed once a month at Madison Square Garden, is unprecedented,” the statement said.
